Aaoge Jab Tum O Saajana: Jab We Met

Amidst the roaring success of the foot-tapping Mauja Hi Mauja and the melodious Tum Se Hi, another gem from the movie Jab We Met has gone unnoticed.

Aaoge Jab Tum O Sajana is melodious and has a classical touch to it. Sung beautifully by Ustad Rashid Khan, this song is four and a half minutes of sheer pleasure.

Aaoge Jab Tum O Saajana,
Angana phool khilenge
Barasega saawan, barasega saawan, jhoom jhoomake
Do dil aise milenge

This song is composed by the guest composer, Sandesh Shandilya, who has given us songs like Suraj Hua Maddham from Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam, Bhaage Re Man from Chameli, Laree Chootee from Ek Chalis Ki Last Local.

The song is slow and melodious. Irhsad Kamil’s words are simple and sweet. The best thing about the song is certainly singing. Ustad’s voice has a folky touch and works well with the song. The song opens with his powerful alaap. Ustad sings with ease. The way he ends the ‘phool khilenge’ and ‘do dil aise milenge’ is as if he is lazy to complete the lines, and that adds a special effect to the song. His expressions are so genuine, one can feel the longing for the beloved. The song ends with a flute piece and Ustad’s sargam. A perfect end to a great song.

Just heard this song right now for the first time and simply fell in love with it. I also loved the way you described the song, perfect review for a perfect song.

I read your about me page and I completely agree that I could not find an online music review site where I could meet people who has same music taste as mine and recommend me some good music. Anyway, here’s one very strong recommendation from me. Listen to Abhijeet Sawant’s album ‘Junoon’. ‘Tere Bina’, ‘Meri Aankhen’ are absolutely fantastic. Actually the whole album is great. I have been listening to it non-stop and can’t seem to get enough of it.

    Have a good one,

  4. Yes this is the best in the album. Its wrong to say it got unnoticed..All the music lovers heart touching song in the movie was this one without a doubt..lovely singing as u say lazy towards thend was realy good.
Adding to it the lovely picturisation of the song made it even better..

Hope you have listened to KK’s new album…

  5. By the way why havent you any review on Jodha Akbar??
Dont tell me you are not a Rahman fan..Coz i am a very die hard fan of him. :)))
I guess the songs in the movie were really good according to the situation in the movie…

  6. Oh yes, I am a big fan of Rehman and probably that’s why I can’t review his music 🙂 I tried reviewing that movie, but felt I was not doing justice to it, so I dropped the idea.

  7. Umesh says:

Wow thats really good to know what you said about Rahman.. I was a bit tensed..hahahha coz the reviews you had was from old movies..
But i know music has no boundaries and even i like the songs and reviews what you have given here.
The movie Jodha Akbar has some awesome music and great compositions.
He surprises everyone with the kind of dedication he gives to each song. The singers he chooses is just awesome.
Would you belive the guy who sang “Nagaada” from Jab we Met has sung the song “Kehne Ko Jashne Bahaara”.

The background music in the movie is too good. As always am taken to a different world with his songs…..

  14. Dipankar says:

    Hi Anamika,
It’s great to know that you have such beautiful thoughts about this song. This is one of my favourite songs. Just to correct you on the singer. It’s not sung by Ustaad Rashid Khan but by Ustaad Sultan Khan. Ustaad Sultan Khan has other very popular and melodious numbers like Piya Basanti Re with Chitra and Leja Leja witH Shreya Ghoshal to his credit among others.

Enjoi the melody of this song! 🙂
    Thanks,
    Dipankar

  15. Chirag says:

    Guys,

I think this is one of the best songs I ever heard. The best thing about this song is the lyrics somewhat portraits the happy mood
(of coming together) but the music of the song ( based on the raga- tilak kamod?) with the voice of Ustad Rashid Khan (Definitely) and according the situation in the movie makes it a masterpiece.
It is really a touchy, the lyrics, the music and of course with the voice of Ustad Rashid Khan, U can’t think of anything else……. masterpiece……
About awards…….. it doesn’t need it!

  18. Anonymous says:

    ya…………….this is a nice song….great lyrics, music,sound…..a grt combination….one of d best songs i hv heard 4 a long time

  19. Harsha says:

I think the raag is mishra tilak kamod – the presence of tivra Ma in a couple of places makes it an adapted version of pure tilak kamod.

    • Arjun says:

I think you are quite right about that. The arohana with ‘pa ni sa re’ and the avarohana with ‘re pa ma ga’ almost follows the pakad of Tilak Kamod. The presence of re in arohana should remove any doubts of it being Khammaj, as some other have opined. Of course, I am not an expert.

  20. SAURABH BHAKRI says:

No doubt quite touching the way the song has been rendered by Ustad Rashid Khan Ji and it holds you right from the first listening. I am surprised to know it is from ‘Jab We Met’. Sandesh Shandilya has created a beautiful, touching melody … quite nostalgic a feeling goes as you hear the song.

  21. Anil Mohire says:

The raaga of this song sung by Ustad Rashid Khan is Kumud..
I not only like this movie or this song but also the way the song is represented… That scene is very touching when Geet takes a bite and the way Aditya looks n tears cum out of his eyes. if i wud b der i would not create this situation. who will not like such character of Geet… forever.

  22. Avdhoot says:

The lyrics given by Amarjit are wrong…there are few mistakes…such as “tuse gaye”s place “tu tu kahe” & much more…see below for right lyrics…

    Aaoge Jab Tum O Saajana – 2
    Angana Phool Khilenge
Barsega Saawan, Barsega Saawan Jhoom Jhoomke
    Do Dil Aise Milenge
Aaoge Jab Tum O Saajana, Angana Phool Khilenge

Naina Tere Kajraare Hai, Naino Pe Hum Dil Haare Hai
Anjaane Hi Tere Naino Ne Waade Kiye Kayi Saare Hai
Saanson Ki Lay Madham Chalein, Tose Gaye
(Barasega Saawan – 2) Jhoom Jhoomke, Do Dil Aise Milenge
Aaoge Jab Tum Ho Saajana, Angana Phool Khilenge

Chanda Ko Taaku Raaton Mein, Hai Zindagi Tere Haanthon Mein
Palkon Pe Jhilmil Taarein Hain, Aana Bhari Barsaaton Mein
Sapnon Ka Jahaan, Hoga Khila Khila
(Barasega Saawan – 2) Jhoom Jhoomke, Do Dil Aise Milenge

    (Sargam)
Angana Phool Khilenge – 2 (Sargam)

  23. Poonam says:

@Avdhoot – Its neither “tuse gaye” nor “tu tu kahe”. Its TOSE KAHE.
wouldve been better if instead of “tu tu kahe” it wudve been “aap aap kahe”

  24. srijith says:

This is a wonderful song .. but so far , I thought this was a composition by Pritam . I always wondered how a composer such as Pritam , who copies songs ( without even bothering to refine the tune at all) from anywhere he can find , was capable of creating such an amazing melody. Thanks for clearing my misconceptions.

  25. Anonymous says:

My dear friend- absolutely no Pilu in this…Rashid-bhai is my Guru…and this is definitely Khamaj based…most filmy songs end up not being 100% pure raag based…so there is a tail of a little tilak kamod at the end especially. Khamaj normally produces a resonance of absolute longing and romance to the beloved…such are the vibes…

    Hope this helps.

  26. varun swarup says:

This is Tilak Kamod for sure.

Look at the script of Tilak Kamod. The song is a reflection of this raag.

Sa Re Ga Sa, Re Ma Pa Dha Ma Pa Sa’, Sa’ Dha Pa Ga Sa, Sa Re Ga Sa Ni, Pa Ni Sa Re Ga Sa

Tilak Kamod is a Raag that portrais romance that has a whif of pain attached to it and the composer uses this raag to compose this song that brings out that veryy emotion in to the song.

  27. Shivdatta says:

First I would like to thank to Irshadji, sandeshji and ustad Rashidji for this sweet and beautiful song given to us. It is very heart touching song. Rashidji has given justise to meaningful lyrics with his sweet voice. I always feel very nice whenever I listen it. And one more thing I have never meet a person who dont like this. Its evergreen song for forever.

  28. Neeraj says:

Awesome song ….Sandesh Shandilya ‘s composition is unbeatable and Ustad Rashid Ali khan’s voice goes well with the music and creates a magical impact & the lyrics of Irshad Kamil are fabulous …Sandesh Shandilya also gave us Khakhi … Vaada raha pyar se ..Dil dooba & famous ..Aisa jadoo dala re ..

  29. premsila says:
